Hi, The Sankyo 600 I have, it says it takes Super 8 and Single 8, so why would a single 8 film be so jumpy and impossible to get frames right, looks like 2 x 1/2 a frame is showing at a time
Even using frame adjuster switch.

I assume single 8 and reg 8 is same, they have slightly bigger holes along the side of film compared to Super 8, correct?

- Sankyo 600 cannot play regular 8
- Super 8 = Single 8
- Single 8 is not the same with regular 8

Single 8 is the same size as super 8 . It is just a polyester film base. It is NOT the same as standard 8.

Super 8 and single 8 only differ in the method of transportation used in a camera. Single 8 was developed by Fuji, many people like the system as the cameras have metal gates, whereas the Super 8 cartridge has its own plastic gate.

Standard 8, also known as Regular 8, is an entirely different film, it's only similar in its width of 8mm.

All Super 8 projectors will run single 8, but they will not accept standard/regular 8. If you need to run Super 8 and standard/regular 8 in the same projector you need a dual-gauge machine, such as sold by Eumig. These models will have a D after their number.

Standard or Regular 8mm only silent projectors are a cheap alternative to dual format projectors. Regular 8 only sound projectors are hard to find with the Eumig Mark S projectors most common. Beware the Eumig Super 8 projectors of the mid 1960s were also badged Mark S.

Thanks for clearing it up and all the replies.

Fortnaulety as far as I know unless there are more films over my brother's my late father only had one Reg 8mm reel, although my
eldest brother feels he did use a Reg 8 Projector in the 60's etc before he moved onto Super 8 sound films during a trip we took in 1968, so makes me wonder, as knowing my father he would not of chucked any films out. pity as what is on this reel is us moving into our family home from what I can tell through a viewer. But not worth me getting another projector to play one reel. I see what it will cost to get it and one other older Super 8 reel professionaly coverted to digital, as I am in process of doing rest myself.

Done a lot of reading of sites and you tube videos on how to do it, including posts here by people.

When one considers what 200feet would cost to get professionaly done from one quote I got, $180 AUD$, sheesh the trip we took to New Zealand in 1972 would be expensive, 6 x 400feet reels with sound. A Used Telceine is worth around 3k and I am not confvinced the outcome is as good as professionals say from you tube videos I have seen of some finished product.
