The final Manchester Film Fair was enjoyable but I have to say the air was tinged with sadness knowing it was going to be the last after so many successful years. We spoke to some of the dealers trying to encourage one if not two to take it on but sadly it seems it’s had its run. What was clear is that we all need to have a concerted effort to support our film events which in turn help us to continue what is for many of us a hobby which has been part of our lives since dot, in this way we will help secure its future be it in the UK or anywhere else.

NEXT UP IS...
April 16, 2011
BIG SCREEN TIME
The William Penney Theatre
AWE, Tadley, Hampshire UK
Entrance on the A340 Basingstoke to Pangbourne road just before the Heath End roundabout.

This event is now fully booked with dealers I am told so it should make for a cracking film collectors event with plenty to choose from.
See you there!

ELFF went of well with quite a few rarities turning up particularly on 16mm film. It was also nice to see some of what were the top models of 16mm projectors available along with 9-5 and 8mm machines. All in all I think we all had a good time.

NEXT UP!
BFCC on 14th May 2011
Winston Churchill Hall, Ruislip. HA4 7QL
10:15AM till 5PM
Free car parking and a 350 seat Cinema.

Nowadays, Lancashire is clearly the place to be if you want to attend really good film collecting events! No other county can match it.

Just a little thank you note for everyone who came along to our film fair and supported it, along with the help in the kitchen and members of the church who also helped tidy up after the event.

We settled into our new 2 room venue well I thought after months of planning do have room to further expand next time if the need arises which will be handy in the future. Feed back direct to us was that the new venue was preferred although I did get one complaint that the car park was small. ARG!! It was nice to see a good variety of items for sale by the traders which ranged from a 35mm projector down to a mini cine along with all the cine film gauges represented. I invited only two DVD/Blu-Ray stall holders which did add something to a film event but primarily this is a cine fair and the DVD stalls did very well selling vintage titles. Quad posters were also on offer as were various film memorabilia including autographed photographs, so I guess you could say we covered just about every angle of movie kingdom. People had travelled from Scotland and also London as well as many local film collectors hunting that missing title perhaps. I started putting on this film fair four years ago now as I felt it important to promote film so this great hobby of ours continues and I would encourage anyone with the commitment to have a go staging your own film fair if you do not have one within striking distance. Many of the traders asked me to do two a year which we are considering, but I have to say I feel it would be much better to have one taking place over the Yorkshire side of things rather than overload Lancashire with fairs.

The future.
We did have a movie fair in the centre of Manchester for so many years but this folded last year. I arranged a meeting with a central hotel with a view to restarting it but the costs were astronomical although the venue would have been fantastic for a one or possibly two day event and certainly easy to get to. I will continue to pursue this even if I only do this as a one off event to celebrate film as it would be really good to see take place in the city. Guess I would call it ‘The Festival of Film Collecting’ More on this later..

Here are a few photos I managed to snap of the ELFF No4.
Carry on collecting folks!

Nice pics, Lee. Do you happen to know if the 35mm machine sold and for how much?

Thank you for the comments boys. The 35mm machine was complete and I think it went at the end for the £200/£150 mark. The 35mm features were more or less sold as soon as the door opened as a few were scattered about at low prices.

Lee,

Congratulations on putting on such a great event. It has a very similar vibe to our CineSea, which like yourself we do to promote the hobby and give collectors a chance to meet, buy, trade and just have fun. Wonderful job!
