Are you guys attending those conventions? I know some are in US and all, but I am considering going to the next BFCC. If I had more money at the moment, I'd go to the Blackpool convention, but have to save up a little, so I can buy something too :-)

Which is the better to attend, if you look to get in touch with people selling and discussing setups?

(Soon I'll be banned for talking to much ;-))

Vidar

You won't get banned.Ash away. We all had a lot of questions when we first started. And we didn't have this forum then. That's what we are here for. It's what keeps us going. I would definately attend one of the conventions. Try the one closest to you first. Then, next time the other.

I think London is easier to access from Norway, but I don't think it's a big problem to go to Blackpool either. Bus or train is okay :-)

I really hope to meet some of you guys, hopefully get perspectives on what to look for and how to take care of 8mm stuff. I need to learn to do maintenance, as Norway probably won't be able to repair projectors at all. You are a super (8) gang :-)

London and Blackpool were only 3 weeks apart this year. If the same thing happens next year, the ideal would be to go to London and stay until Blackpool! I don't think anyone would like to pick one in particular that you should come for - both have their own special qualities.

London is on a bigger scale though Adrian. I think the main attraction for Blackpool is the Saturday evening dinner which you're keeping going yourself. Whilst many of us were not interested in the dinner when Derann used it as a self-congratulatory thing I think that will have changed now it is run by an enthusiast.

If Blackpool wasn't so inaccessible from here and I wasn't at the NEC Classic Car show this coming weekend I'd love to see you all there. The best of luck with it. Maybe one day we'll get up with the BFCC screen so you can really show off Super 8 to its best for those that can't get down to London to see it.

I wouldn't go to the dinner, but desperately want to check out those sale boxes :-)

Still interested if anyone has something to sell

Yes, browsed through ... It seems however, that the sales lists are slow to be updated. From at least two places I've ordered, they were listed, but sold (4 items sold out of 6 asked for)

So, I'd prefer to stand with my head inside the box and look :-)

If I may give my two pence, I think it's useless to state what convention is the biggest and what is the smallest. You're lucky to have more than one convention in UK (Ealing, Blackpool, Tadley, etc.).
I do hope that also Blackpool will go well, so this means that the hobby is still alive as the market, despite Derann's demise.

Here in Italy we do our best to organize a single Super8 Festival (that includes both screenings, competition and stalls) and there are other two conventions in Ancona (dedicated to sellers) and in Rome (dedicated to analogue media), but we don't defintely have this approach of competition between organizers...

I don't look for bigger ones, just where I can shop a little. I wish Norway was big enough too, but can hardly call it a convention if I am alone :-)

Are there even more than Blackpool and London?

I guess this is the one I'll attend ... A whole year to next Blackpool and London ones, or am I wrong in assuming that?

No need for non-dealers to book anything, right, just pop in?

Are all the big guns coming there too? I8, CHC and such?

Which convention is the biggest [Roll Eyes] ...who cares. The main thing is you still have them, dont you think.

Myself, if I had the money I would love to attend the Cineseu in the US. I spoke to my wife and we would like to tour the US by rail and adding the US convention to it would be just great. [Cool] so have bought the winning LOTTO ticket for this weekend million dollar prize. [Wink]

Sorry chaps, I wasn't trying to insult any other film fair around the UK. Whilst there is no doubt the BFCC has historically been on a bigger scale to Blackpool (bigger venue, bigger screen, more film shows and more ambitious film shows at that) Blackpool has been a better convention for buying films.

I think we all know Blackpool had really gone downhill and quite a bore a few years back but started to improve once Bob Nichols took over film show duties (at one point we were down to just two film shows for the whole day!). Now it's right back to where it was in this regard and worth taking another look. As I keep saying, if I could get there I would and I wouldn't have been saying that a few years back because there was just no point in going back then.

The best of luck with it to all concerned and my apologies once more that my post was misunderstood.

Blackpool has actually turned into something quite amazing and David has given it his all it should be said bringing his professional showmanship to the event. Last year we were all buzzing and it was truly a pleasure to support the North West Film Fair trading. The northern events have lower pricing as was demonstrated by a forum member who purchased a Stereo Beaulieu 708 projector shown working for £200 last year, and it was clear to see we had a good foot fall through the door as well which I see growing due to the sell out of dealer bookings, the professional projection in the cinema by the team with carefully selected programmes and demos and not to forget the Saturday dinner Adrian has gone to great lengths to arrange. For me, and this is only my view we are so fortunate to have this have this two day movie event in our country also taking place at our number 1 seaside attraction.

I see a mention of my own East Lancashire Film Fair as well here now in our 5th year. This we started as collectors were asking for something around April so we basically just started it up and as of last year we now have 2 dealer rooms instead of 1. I’ve been looking at expanding it to incorporate technical demonstrations, a guest speaker, amateur film competition and an evening film programme at a local cinema venue. If it comes together this will be a larger 2 day event in 2014 and similar to the film festival format which I used to project at in the 80’s and 90’s which was very successful.

We should not forget the Group 9-5 Harpenden annual get-together as well which has recently taken place and some very nice items could be found there and trade was very brisk. Then of course we have the legendary Ealing bash which has always been a very enjoyable day out although this year I could not make it due to work and filming blast it! So, all in all the UK cine scene seems to be very active and I think we are all pleased to see such a variety of events taking place.
Well done to all of you who put in the months work just for the love of it.

Collectors in Lancashire are amazingly fortunate, to have Blackpoool, Lee's event and the Farnworth Film Fun Day in Bolton. I'm tempted to move there! Perhaps there are an above-average quantity of film collectors in the North West?
