I asked CHC about new releases, but they are not chancing it, as the sales were to low. Sad ... But did get a confirmation that Steve Osbourne could do a Raiders of the Lost Ark for 700-750 USD and I think I might go for one of those. Could anyone tell me if there would be any problems, quality wise, with a new copy now or if the Stereo track would be usable at all on my non-stereo machine?

Re. stereo sound: if your machine is a Track 1 only projector, then you will miss all the sounds coming from the right-hand side (but this usually happens very rarely); if your projector is a "twin-track machine, then it will playback both tracks mixed together, in which case you won't miss any portion of the sound but still the spatial sound only true stereo sound can deliver. Finally if you have an Elmo ST 1200 HD you'll hear the tracks mixed together on its small speaker but you'll still be able to feed an external amplifier with both tracks kept separately. I think some Bell &Howell machines made by Sankyo also have such a feature (model DCT/DCR I guess but I'm not 100% positive).
Regarding other problems I don't understand what you are referring to. Cheers.

Sorry ... I heard somewhere that the early Empire copies is better than the ones you get now, due to masters getting poorer ...

I'm not sure if you contacted CHC recently but it has been said elsewhere that the sales of Captain America have been good (with the first batch of prints sold even before they were available) and could increase the chances of other such releases.
I think the key thing with Phil S is that people who are serious about buying new releases tell him what they want, particularly if it's something relatively achievable such as a trailer. He keeps saying that he gets no demand expressed for anything, even when I say to him something like "You have now, because I'm requesting a trailer to 'The Woman In Black' and I'll buy 3 copies as I have friends that want one too".

I got the reply a day or two ago ... Not enough people buying, but I suggested pre-paying, so he wouldn't lose money ... I'd gladly do that if it's a film I really want

I think it's worth us doing what we can to encourage new releases via CHC as Phil S does tend to give out mixed messages - e.g his editorial in the new issue of 'Film Collector' says "We have numerous new S8 releases in the pipeline." It can be discouraging when he says there's little demand to the very people who are expressing demand! Steve Osborne's approach seems to be significantly more upbeat, which perhaps helps to whip up enthusiasm.
