Houston, we have a problem!
I was just watching my 3x400 "Superman" digest, and suddenly I turn to find a pile of film on the floor. Guess what? The take-up reel had stopped again!
This is the third time now that this has happened since I got the machine last week and it annoys me. Is this an issue that others here have experienced?
What seems to happen is that at random intervals the belt slips off the wheel driving the take-up reel, and falls "behind it", so that I have to loosen the entire drive wheel to fasten it again. And after a few hours, it's off again!
Any ideas?

Looks fine and square to me, no bent pulleys and the belt is not loose as far as I can tell.
Looks like this:

On mine, it looks like this is closer to the wheel (so the belt won't have chance to slip off. Only thing I can see that differs a bit from mine
I think it's just to loosen that screw on it, twist it a little towards the beltwheel and tighten it again

Is this an early version of the ST1200 ? light-blueish frame ? It's a common incident that's also happening on early ST600s and SC18s.Especially with recent belts sold over the net, which indeed seem a bit loose. I've seen a modification added to the machine in form of a small nylon roller pressing on the top path of the belt. Home made thingy, so if you know your way around tools and find a small roller, either chrome or nylon, that's not complicated to do. You also have to check the assay attached to the take-up arm. As far as I remember, there's a washer made out of cork. When this wears out, the pulley tends to move slightly side to side. The easiest way around all this is to get belt material and create a tighter belt. Not too tight, you don't want to block thetake-up. Hope this helps.

The problem, Vidar, is that the belt slips the other way and ends up "behind" the wheel on the right. Will see if I can get some DYI-tricks sorted for it

Oh well! After replacing belts yesterday, mine has come with weird sounds and it's the same belt as you have problems with. It just starts squeaking and the belt goes soft on top, but I can not see what should obstruct it ...
Oh, well, I think I'll send it to complete overhaul if the guy has time :-)

I recently had the same issue with the take up moving very slow and not winding the film up tight on my ST1200...The belt didn't appear to be loose or slipping by looking at it but I replaced it and that did solve the problem.
