A couple of weeks ago I tried to place an order but on the site it
said it would be closed until the 12th April, now it's the 19th.
Anybody know where I can get some 16mm sprocket repair tape?

Hugh - I can mention sources in London and north Surrey, but make sure you're sitting down before discovering the prices!

No a few weeks ago it said the 12th Oemar, now it's another
week they've stuck on. Adrian you're quite right, the price of
repair tape is ridiculous, but a feature recently purchased had a few feet of torn sprockets that does need repaired.

From what I understand (being that my German is quite rubbish) they are doing some remodeling/redecorating in their shops/offices, and speaking from experience, that sort of work never finishes on time!

Hugh - I think the high price is partly because the sellera are offering 'double' rolls. Some people sell 'single' rolls via eBay and elsewhere, so you could try looking for these.

I wondered what type of sprocket repair machine do you use, if any? My experience of such devices so far is dreadful - the tape never seems to perfectly line up with the sprockets and I end up wasting a lot. One tip I acted upon, with good results, was to use the perforated edge of Presstapes when making short repairs. If carefully applied, it works well if the repair is (e.g.) 3 or 6 sprockets. I apply it to both sides. I have also tried using a non-perforated section of these, and using a CIR splices ro re-perforate.

Hi Adrian, and thanks for the trouble you've taken. I havent a
machine, I was just going to do a very careful application of a
sprocket at a time by anchoring the film on a board, and applying
it very carefully. Luckily it's only about five feet, caused by a
dodgy splice that no one bothered to sort out, but it should be
okay as long as the films under tension and secure and I can
unroll the repair tape along it's length. I did do the CIR splice tape
repair on a short piece of S/8 some years ago, and it does work
as long as the film is clear of lubricant etc.I still don't understand why this stuff is so expensive, it must be made in
much the same way as splicing tape except pre punched.I can
understand various aspects of this hobby being expensive, but
for a bit of sticky tape, they take it beyond a joke.

You may find that the repair tape may not work. It could be newly manufactured, and as you are going to apply it to an (old?) feature over "a few feet" you may find that the perforations will not line up.
Even it does work out for you many Elf/Eiki projectors do not like such repairs.
I suggest Adrian's idea is a good one, and if all else fails just chop out the damaged section, only you will know that something is missing.

That's good advice Maurice, the film is printed on Ilford stock,is
a B/W film from the '60's, so shrinkage might be a problem,but
nothing ventured,nothing gained, I'll chance it.Luckily I favour
the Bell & Howells, despite having some Elfs, as B&H tend to be
more tolerant of older stocks.
