Hello everyone! I have found this forum to be of great assistance and a wealth of information. Thanks for all your submissions!
A little about myself. I love love love movies.
My current Blu-ray collection is close to 400 movies. But I wanted to get into film.
My first child was born on the 20th of December and I wanted to get some great moments on film. I have always wanted to use a Super 8 camera and when she came along I had the perfect excuse to finally get one.
I purchased a Canon 514 XL-S, and a Bell & Howell Filmosound Super 8 Projector Model 458. I have yet to use my projector, since I have no films yet.
I purchased my first Super 8 film from a regular here on the forum, Ian O'Reilly, The Third Man. I am super excited to get this and to view it!
I would just like to ask for some general tips and tricks for viewing and storing of the film. Do I need to clean the film I buy before viewing? Do I have to use cotton gloves when handling the film? How do I prevent scratches on my film?
This is all very new to me. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the world of film, Plus congratulations on your daughter of course.
I used to wear cotton gloves when I was editing my own films, I still try to wear them when splicing, but most times I just wash my hands really well when splicing-up to larger reels.
If you clean your films use some throwaway gloves. That's my rule, the only time I didn't my hands were very dry for days.
It shouldn't do any harm to clean and lubricate them. In fact it should help them through the projector more smoothly.
Always clean your projector before a film show, a soft brush and a can of air are useful. If you can leave the fan running with the lamp switched off, do that it makes sure things are cool before moving the projector.
Enjoy both your new additions. Oh and take plenty of films and photos of your little girl, they grow so fast. Mine girl is coming up to 10 and time as flown by.
-------------------- I love the smell of film in the morning.
