on Ken films release how can you tell if its the sound version or silent without actually playing it. I see some had stickers on them saying but if the sticker is missing, can you look up the code on the box to tell. tough to tell buying on ebay when seller cant view it or doesn't know

The seller should be abble to tell you what is selling or at least make the effort to check if you ask him. To see if it is a sound film, look at the begining of the film, until the first frames (to check the optical sound). If you can see only a full picture, it is silent. If there is a magnetic strip, it is magnetic sound (the most common one). If there is no magnectic strip but an optical strip (small "broken line" along the picture), it is optical sound (rare in super 8).

Standard 8 and Super 8 sound films will have a brown strip at the edge of the film, this is the magnetic sound track. There are a few sound films on Super 8 which have an optical sound track, i.e. a wavy line down one side of the film. However, optical sound films are very rare.

If the above criteria are not met, then the film is silent.
