hi guys can anyone give me some technical advice i have a eumig s938 stereo projector to look at it cosmeticly looks fantastic but when its switched on the take up reel doesnt turn straight away plus after about 5 mins there is a loud clicking noise coming from the inside

Hello Kevin! Did you already open the back of the projector? Justo to see if all the belts are in good shape, and if anything looks broken or something like that?

hi rui took the back off and had a look there is a small cog that moves onto the cogs that moves the take up reel that slowly moves onto the larger cogs i was wondering if any dirt or grease by it that had built was preventing it coming up quickley and as for the clicking noise it seams to be coming from that area

I am not sure about the 938 but a lot of projectors have a clutch arrangement on their spool arms which allows them to free-wheel in the opposite direction from which they normally travel.

The clutch often relies on gravity for its operation, i.e., pins drop to catch one way but not the other. Some times the pins just break, but quite often they can't rely on gravity as they are clogged with old dried up grease.

It's only a thought, but you might examine the mechanism to see if it just needs a good clean up.

The clicking sound may be a cracked gear on the take up reel. Every time the cracked cog revolves it makes a click. However, I could be wrong. [Confused]

I think Igor is on the right track Kevin.

The gear most likely to crack on a 900 series Eumig is a plastic worm gear located on the shuttershaft next to the drive belt.
It is a one piece plastic moulding and they break by cracking at the worm gear teeth. Usually it begins by making a clicking sound and this gets louder till one day the worm gear teeth disintegrate.
With the front cover off, have a look behind the lamp while rotating the shuttershaft. If the gear is cracked you should be able to see it there.

I think we may have to operate. [Frown]

When you are looking at the plastic gears , look for a little jump when the gear is turning. This jump will be seen the same time as the clicking sound. What happened where the crack is there is a small gap which prevents the cogs from meshing. Thereby lifting the gear a tad and causing a licking sound.
If this happened on the take up reel, it may cause it to stop when the reel gets partially full. AS the reel gets heavier the gear will slip. So, there ya go!
