It appears from members' comments that there are problems in unlacing an auto-thread Super 8 projector, particularly those with a closed layout.

I have just bought a pristine Bell & Howell DCM (made by Sankyo) in which the instruction book says: "There may be times when you would like to remove a film from the projector without running it to the end. Your machine has been designed so that this can be easily done".

It then describes and illustrates the method. It also goes on to advise and illustrate how to manually thread the projector, this is the reverse of unlacing.

I am not quite sure why anyone should want to do the latter when the projector's auto-thread mechanism is very good.
