Silly question, but are 8mm reels designed to accommodate both Super 8 and Regular 8 film? Or does each gauge demand a specific reel?

Different sized hubs and spindles Mark, Super 8mm is around 5mm larger at least in diameter from memory. (It has been a very long time since I last handled any Standard 8mm prints ha ha.)
Ps no such thing as a "silly question" on here Mark!

Spools will handle both Super 8 and standard (regular) 8 as regards width, however the centre hole is different on each. A Super 8 spool can be used on both gauges, the large hole being plugged with a spool adapter when using on a standard 8 projector. However, the reverse does not apply, i.e., the small centre hole of a standard 8 spool will only fit on a standard 8 projector. If you still have any 1/4" recording tape their spools are the same centre hole of standard 8 spools and are interchangeable.

Thanks very much everyone. This is very helpful. I purchased a regular 8 sound print recently and was concerned about using the take-up reel for my Super 8 movies.
