I have been buying from German eBay and it is a bit of a crapshoot. Still waiting on one very late parcel that I think is lost forever. The fault is the US postal system, however. Don't know about VAT, but I suspect the answer is yes. Looking forward to a more informed reply.

You pay VAT in originating country in the EU they should be no import duty from EU to EU

I have bought many projectors from German eBay. Germany is in the EU and their VAT is 19%.
There will be no VAT or any import duty to pay when it arrives in the UK as you will already have paid it in Germany.
German eBay is certainly the place to go if you want to buy a Bauer.

I have seen countless great film titles offered in Germany that I haven't seen elsewhere. I envy the UK (and abroad) collectors as, quite frankly, it seems that the super 8 film supply in the U.S. seems a little dry these days.
