Wow - just had to share my shock of a Hands of the Ripper Powell 400' digest going for $270 on Ebay!!??!? Maybe the buyer thought it was a feature. That's the only thing that would kinda make sense - but that still would be high! I bid $50 thinking that should have easily won it. It makes me think I picked the right genre to collect (vintage horror) as far as the films going up in value,
The real reason for this post is something else. The latest film I'm obsessed with is Michael Reeves' The Sorcerers with Boris Karloff. So far I have the Derann trailer and 200' digest and a 3 X 400' Dutch release that is pretty good - just a bit grainy and with Dutch subtitles. BUT an old Derann catalogue I have lists the film as a feature release (4 X 400'). I know not everything in the old Derann catalogues actually got printed. So my question is: Has anyone ever actually seen the Derann feature... and have any memories of what it's like. I'm dying to know how it is (quality, editing, etc.) Please let me know if you have any additional info. Thanks and just think we may be able to retire on our horror collections!

I've discussed this release with other horror collectors and I don't think anyone has any evidence of it ever appearing. I settled for the Dutch release too.
$270 is crazy for the 'Hands of the Ripper' 400'. I'd be surprised if the colour is perfect and I'd consider $270 a lot even for the Powell 4 x 400'. On the other hand, I expect a rare print of the Derann full length feature would go for more. I think they discontinued this after a fairly short period due to problems in achieving good results from the neg. I ended up having to settle for a combination of reels from prints with different exposure levels - or nothing. I'm glad I compromised!
