I've had in 2 extracts from Fantasia but I'm not a real fan of the film so I'm not sure what each extract is, so if I give a description, perhaps someone could tell me the exact title for the 2 segments I've got.

The first extract starts with the actual Fantasia opening, we then see Ostrich's, Elephants, Hippo's and Crocodiles all in Ballett shoes and dancing. The reel is about 250' long and has a Piccollo title card at the front.

The second extract starts with Baby Unicorns, Baby Pan Pipers and Flying Horses. The reel is 100' long.

So if you know what these 2 extracts are called I'd be grateful.

"Dance of the Hours" (Ponchielli) is the first extract, "Pastoral Symphony" (Beethoven) is the second. In the feature, the second one comes first.

I wonder where that 100 footer came from.

That sequence was available from Derann included in a 200 Footer called "The Flying Horse" and starts with kind of a cartoon version of an optical sound track coming out to screen center and showing what sounds of various instruments "look like". After that it gets into the music and mythology Barry nentioned.

There is also a 400 footer which is the rest of the Pastoral Symphony sequence. Both of these spliced together on a 600 foot reel plus a good glass of wine makes up nicely for a less than wonderful day at work!

Piccolo in Germany released a few extracts from fantasia, this *could* be the source.

Revue was the photo/film department of the Quelle chain of stores/mail order catalogs in Germany and a few other countries. They were rebranding products like projectors and cameras from Chinon and Eumig (the RevueLux Sound 80 Stereo is a rebadged Chinon SS1200). Doug's extract shown here is from Piccolo originally.

I just got a print of the Piccolo/Revue 200 footer,as mentioned above, the colour is beautiful, no fade and not a scratch to be seen,it starts with 'Dance of Mirlitons' 'Flowers Ballet Sequence' and then goes into the Baby Unicorns, Baby Pan Pipers and Flying Horses sequence, this is my third Fantasia extract, I also have 'The Dance of the Hours' approx 350ft again beautiful colour no scratches, and 'Sorcerer's Apprentice', good colour and no scratches. I think I have done well so far...

The Piccolo "Dance of the Hours" is shortened.Later, when the various extracts from FANTASIA begun to appear,(from various unnamed sources), "Dance" re-appeared complete.
Now,what we are missing from our "complete" copies of FANTASIA is,aside of Deems Taylor's introductions, the beginning of the "Rite of Spring" segment.
