Where do you guys ands gals recommend as the best place to buy A1 / 232 bulbs in the UK these days?

I used to get lots of 3 from a dealer, but it has been about 4 years since I last bought any.

There's a DJ supplier on E Bay Rob that sells them far cheaper than anyone else if you don't mind buying packs of 10. That's who I use and the amount I buy each time.

I think the last batch I purchased was £46 for 10 with free delivery. This is always the deal when buying packs of ten.

I will post you a link to the supplier when I have chance to look through my e bay trading.

They are top quality brand new stock Osram Xenophot lamps.
Packs of 10 May sound excessive, but remember it still only gives you a total running time of around 500hrs and on a digital projector we think of that runtime as nothing at all!

I've purchased two lots using this method since being back in the hobby. No complaints with any of them whatsoever.

Sounds good, thanks Andrew.

I have one left at the moment.

Changed to a new one without the notch as you suggested as the previous lamp had been in there for over 3 years!!

It was still going, even after fairly regular use, but noticeably dimmer when compared to a new one.

So time to re-stock. [Smile]

Here they are Rob.161536906590.

Sorry they've gone up a little since my last purchase!
Still cannot argue with £5.50 a lamp delivered IMHO.

As said, genuine brand new latest stock always delivered safely to your door for free and packaged well.

Impactcls Ltd is the name of the company Rob.

how long do people find lamps last?
I run the 150watt lamp on reduced brightness on my Bauer 502,and I cant remember the last time I had to change one. They just seem to last forever, not that I am complaining!

Thanks Andrew.

I've found the life of bulbs a bit random, David.

I always start my Beaulieu on low setting and switch to high for the show.

Like I say, the last one was in there for about 3 years, being used at least every couple of weeks or so, but it was much dimmer by the end compared to a new one.

When I first bought the Beaulieu many moons ago, it went through a stage of blowing bulbs when you switched to high power, so for many years I left it on low setting.

I think maybe it was a bad batch of bulbs though, as it is fine now.

My Elmo would always pop the bulb if it hadn't been used for a few months.

It also seemed to go through them a lot faster.

I suppose like all bulbs, when they go they go!

Yep,even cheaper James just by buying at least 3. Thanks for the tip off. [Wink]

To be honest I was surprised how much the DJ supplier had raised their price since last time I purchased a batch.
It was less than an year ago and I definitely only paid £46 for ten delivered.

A year or so previously they were £39.99.

Unfortunately Edwin, the 500 hour versions are not available as Xenophot variants and therefore are not as bright as the Osram ones.

I used to use 500hr, 24v 250w lamps when DJing and while being very cost effective and practical, they were never anywhere near as bright as their Xenophot counterparts unfortunately.

David..that's great news! Saves on the postage, not to mention the e bay hackers!

To David Roberts, if you're getting much more than 50hrs from a Xenophot lamp on a "Studio" series Bauer, it's probably being slightly under run based on my own experience.

This is excellent news for the lifespan of your lamps but may well mean you are not getting the full 15vac delivery to your lamp to obtain maximum brightness.

You'd have to place a multi meter across the lamp terminals to see if this is indeed the case.

Andrew,
I am using the reduced brightness setting on the Bauer, because for home use, this is more than bright enough. So I know the lamp is being under run.

Ah yes then David, by under supplying the lamp, it will of course then last much much longer.

For me personally, I am always looking for additional brightness even while just projecting in the home, especially on scope films that require an anamorphic lens in front.

I suppose it's because I am looking at the image in the same manner I look at the digitally projected ones I run on the same screen and try to obtain similar brightness levels.

This of course is nigh on impossible given that the digital projector can produce 2200 lumens.

Yes, I was told by an assistant in a lighting supply shop that running a halogen lamp at 90% voltage doubles its life
