Can we have an in-depth discussion on projector lens cleaning? Many projector lenses, particularly the Elmo lenses, seem to suffer from condensation and fogging issues, all of which result in light scatter and poor picture contrast. What we need is the expertise, and specific step-by-step instructions, of someone here who has successfully disassembled the Elmo lenses, cleaned them, and reassembled them.
I would like to clean my Elmo 1.0 lens, but I can't even budge the retaining sleeve. I can see light scatter in the lens, and it bugs me that I can do nothing about it.

Paul,
You should be able to remove the large black outer ring by turning it counterclockwise and unscrewing it. You can then remove the large outer glass element. The next metal ring (with the two holes)requires a lens spanner wrench to remove. The next four pieces (three glass and a metal spacer) are not anchored and come out pretty easily. The fixed rear element can then be cleaned from the front through the now empty lens barrel. Then replace the parts in the same order. This photo of mine from a previous thread is the Elmo f1.0 lens disassembled. The box on the left contains three pieces. One glass with outer ring, one metal spacer, and one glass element with no outer ring which makes it a little hard to see... -

Thanks Joe, that's great info, and the kind of response I was hoping for. Unfortunately I still cannot unscrew that outer ring. Maybe I need a pipe wrench! [Big Grin]
Did you see a significant improvement in picture quality after cleaning the lens?

Paul and Antoine,
Wow, I didn't have a problem especially with the large outer sleeve. Maybe yours had some kind of adhesive applied when they were assembled?
Paul, I wouldn't say the improvement was significant, but better than it was before [Wink]
