Goodmorning Everybody,

Just to introduce me, I am happy to be newly registered in this very active Super 8 place.
It seems people are coming far ,from USA , GB, NEW ZELAND, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, IRELAND, More places in EUROPE and over the world.....
Its also the way to improve my English language, not so often used everyday, I do all my best......
My S8 collection is rather turn to former animated (W/D, MGM, Ub iwerks, etc....), Shorts or Feature.
I stopped to buy anymore prints in the 90's. I choose to select the quality first, so all of them are "technically" brand new condition with nice colors. The difference between each of them is due to negative origine used to perform final copies.
As exemple, "The little Mermaid" is pretty good for Reels 1&2, N°3 reel is showing stranges "Halos" from time to time, but acceptable as the movie is very nice.

At this time I would to experiment Post Syncro Language.

If anybody has already done it, let me know if a Standard Computer with DVD reader and BEAULIEU 708EL STEREO is enough as facilities.
The idea is to keep original language on a track and to ad other language on 2 nd track.

Thanks in Advance

Kind Regards

Phil

Bonjour Phil and welcome to le forum.

Re-recording prints in different languages is something quite common among film collectors, including myself.

The trick is to have your projector locked at the correct speed, in our case for PAL DVDs at 25fps, usually by mean of a device that will send pulses to the motor control board. There is/was such a device for the 708 (it was an extra electronic board that needed to be soldered to the inner parts of the projector) but it has become difficult to find.

It's also good to rip the content of your DVD to a hard drive in order to avoid any lagging.

Now, there's always the trial and error way. The 708 features a small speed controller for +/- 1 to 3 fps. You can try to find the correct speed, project your film next to the computer screen and monitor everything from there when recording. It could work. Have fun.

Cresta did a few good pulse sync systems, these will link to the 708 reed switch connection at the back of your projector, it will lock a modified tape machine to this incoming pulse for sound recording.

Bienvenue (welcome) Phil. Happy to see another French speaker here (even if we use English on this forum ;-). Be aware that many films have several lenght versions (depending usually on the country, the language), so a dvd version of a film may differ from a super 8 film, which doesn't help the redubing. That said, many people do it so it is not impossible :-)

Goodevening, Jean-Marc, Paul and Dominique,

Thanks for Welcoming me and for answers.

Jean-Marc, yes , Beaulieu 708 has a Capstan Driven and properly stablelised. I ll try to adjust the 25 fps using the Top Syncro (small connector backshell located).

Paul, unfortunately , I haven't found yet the Cresta Device on the Net...

Dominique, Yes , for exemple, It seems that there are noticeable differences between "African Queen" DVD and the Super 8 Derann Negative. I ll need to fill "Blanks" or cut out.

Keep in touch...

Different cuts are quite common. I just finished retracking the Derann print of "Pocahontas" for a friend and the French DVD has two extra singing parts. I had to juggle a bit
Good luck with your project, Phil. Any question, feel free to ask, you know where to find us. [Smile]
