Hello 8mm forum. I'm new here and I'm happy to see a website that has 8mm dedicated forums. I have an issue with my Canon 814 AZ where the needle that measures the aperture is stuck at closed. I have filmed on this camera before without using light meter batteries and using an external light meter. The needle still would function and I would be able to change aperture on manual.

Any suggestions would be well appreciated as I'm hoping my camera isn't broken. I have filmed on it since the needle has been stuck and I have been able to expose film. So I believe the C-O switch still works.

Hi David,

I'm sorry you didn't get any traction here before.

Personally I think your light meter circuit is dead. Could be as simple as a bad connection, could be as bad as a dead photo cell or the little motor that moves the aperture.

I've taken movie cameras apart, as nearly as I can figure they are assembled by great armies of tiny elves: there is a vast amount of stuff inside held together by many tiny, hidden screws.

-I've never killed a projector...camera? More than one...

(If you ask me they deserved it!)

Most camera shops (If you can find one in the first place...) will back away from repairing a Super-8 camera as if you asked them to join in a bank robbery, but there still are some that do, and a Canon 814 is one they would work on.

Here are two I know of, but haven't actually used:

Spectra

Pro8mm

Pro-8mm has a reputation for being pricy, but I don't think you will get any professional help here without it costing.

I've heard good things about http://www.super16inc.com/

But you should call. It took them a long time to respond to my email. They seem very nice. I was going to send my 1014xls in but haven't had the opportunity. Prices also appear reasonable from our discussion. Hope that helps!
