I have a Elmo K-110 SM Projector and it has a couple of issues. One: When film is fed it hesitates and needs to be partially hand fed in before it catches and makes it to the supply spindle.
Two: Once film is connected between the two spindles in normal run mode, it does what I can best describe as a hiccuping motion. It does very brief pauses every few seconds. This creates a very choppy running of any films. I have inspected the supply and take-up spindles, and noticed cracks forming in the supply one. Any thoughts / advice / help on this topic would be truly appreciated.

Hi Warren,

One: On my model, when i press down and hold the black feed button on top it will pull the film right through to the takeup reel... It sounds like either you are not holding this button, or the button is not working. Can you confirm that you have tried holding that feed button down as you feed the film.

Two: If i am understanding this particular issue correctly, it sounds similar to my machine and unfortunately i have not fixed it fully....With mine, the 'hiccup' seems to appear to be in the takeup reel side...as if it is not pulling film fast enough to what is being sped and thus it keeps trying to 'catch up' so-to-speak...Is this similar to you? If so, I personally believe it may be a bad cork..it's adjacent friction plate is either too gummy and thus sticking or is too lubricated and slipping...i think it is on the supply side but cannot yet confirm on mine...If i find out which one i will post an answer, but haven't had a chance to re-look at this elmo as of yet...

Matthew: Thank you for the reply. I have kept the feed button down per the instructions. I'll check the cork parts you mention to see if that's the possible issue. The projector is new / old stock to the best of my knowledge. I'm really hoping to get it working 100%, since I was planning on transferring my late Father's old 8 mm movies. I really like the speed control on it too.

I agree warren. It is a nice little machine, especially with that variable control, which none of my other elmos have.

But until i can get the reel to take up correctly, I am afraid to use mine too much as i have had some issues to date because of the the 'hiccup' as well.

The feed on this one is very different than the other elmos i have...all my other elmos, you push the film into the machine manually until it grabs film sprocket holes into turning spindle but,on this model, you only push it in a very small amount, just enough for it catch and pull through itself by holding pressing and holding that black feed button while you feed it and it should pull through in like 1.2 seconds max [Smile] It is really fast, like instant almost. Scares me everytime to be honest- you'll see what i mean once you do this. Good luck! Sounds like a nice machine NOS you have!

Thanks Matthew, and is indeed a nice little projector. I'm really hope I can get it working properly. I mainly got it for running Standard 8 films, as I have other projectors to run Super-8 films on.

Matthew: I read over your previous posts (and issues) with your K-110 SM. I too found that the cork washers on mine needed to be glued down on their respective gears. I took care of that and checked the belts as well. The main (long) belt is in very good condition, and I replaced the disenagrated motor belt last year. When I attempted to test some film, a grinding noise was present. I removed the film and test ran it without any film inserted. Everything sounded fine, until I tried my test film again. Same grinding issue surfaced! I did notice that the supply spindle gear has several cracks. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with grinding noises I'm experiencing. Anyone have advice / thoughts on this? Many thanks in advance! 😊

One thing to mention is that on mine, I have now replaced the front(supply) spindle with a new one from edwin.
Does it make a difference? Well, On mine, i never did hear grinding but my supply spindle was cracked and i didn't like that just in case.
With the new part, i still experience some 'hiccup', so i am not sure if the new spindle will fix that issue, but it may help with the grinding.
I would, if you haven't done so yet, take off the cover of the front arm and make sure all the gears are good, especially the top one, that we are calling a spindle [Smile] Maybe it is cracked or needs some lube.
Hopefully someone else may have some experience with this machine or issue.

Hi Matt,
The supply spindle gear does have several cracks in it. So far it's holding together, but for how long it's hard to say. I did take apart and grease all the gears on both arms. I wondering now if something is out of alignment and will need to be recalibrated. If so, I'm afraid it will have to sit awhile due to limited funds. Hopefully, in time we can get both of our machines healthy and working smoothly.
