As the old saying goes... don't judge a book by its cover.

I sometimes wonder if this is also the case with super 8 films or not?
There have been countless times when I have been rummaging through boxes of films at conventions and the net result seems to run fairly consistently for me....... If the cover is in lousy condition, you can bet the film in it will be in a lousy condition, too(and vice-versa,of course). It has happened to me so many times now, that I think it has gone beyond being a co-incidence.

What is your experience? Am I right to judge a film condition by its cover, or is it just me?

If the condition you meant include fading condition then it would not always the case.

My self rather to choose scratchy film but not fading rather than clean but totally red.

I suppose if the box hasn't been looked after then the same will be true of the film.

Not always true.

I have bought very ancient standard 8mm Ansco-chrome or Cinecolor cartoons (sometimes around 60 or more years old), are very rarely have the cardboard boxes survived, but the color is just as great as when it was printed. [Smile]
