Has anyone attempted to respray an early 708el with the awful paint problem? Any traps or problems getting it done?

Hi Stu,

Oh , yes, Very very good question !!!!

I have this problem on left (quite a big deal) , so, i introduce you this next project:

A) Full disassembly of machine to get both shells nude.
B) Sand blasting of aluminium shells ( the problem is the control panel foil, not easy to remove without damaging it or needs to be thouroughly protected)
B) MetaFlex + Washprimer coating application : this phase is very important to increase finishing coat life duration.
C) This final finishing coating , (slightly) cooked in oven
==>

Black Finishing, (also called Frozen Paint ???)

As a short term fix, an intricate wipe over with the kind of multi-surface, anti-bac wipe tubs designed for computers and the like, followed by a thorough vacuum clean with a soft end brush does wonders.

Then a thorough film path / gate / sound head assembly clean.

That will reduce most of the strange white appearance on the paint work for a time and also remove any potentially harmful flakes.

After removing all the existing paint, and prior to any painting, I would add the MIL-C-5541 Irridite (Zinc Chromate) dip process to protect the aluminum alloy shell from any further corrosion. This is a cheap process that can be carried out by any reputable metal finishing company, and had Beaulieu used it in the first place there would be no problems today.
