As the King of Castle, I hope that you will know the answer to this question.

It what year did Castle change the color from blue (original 1956) to yellow and back to blue again (late 60's) on the generic Abbott and Costello Comedies box?

And why was it changed?

Thank you!

Yes but the good members here may not be privy to your alternate reply.

Okay. I’ve tried searching for your answer on the “other” forum, but can’t find it anywhere. Would you mind sharing your answer here?

Brad, I've found the answer from doing additional research in the yearly Castle catalogs.

This generic box was first introduced in 1956 with the release of FOREIGN LEGION. It remained in use (with the same blue background) on the pre-1956 Castle A&C shorts until 1975 when new artwork was commissioned.

The alternate yellow background was an early to mid-1960's departure but did not remain for very long. It appears to have been only one printing with the alternate color. They are rare but not impossible to find. In fact, there are several with the alternate yellow background listed on eBay right now.

I hope this helps!

Thank you! BTW... Your book is fabulous!! My copy is worn from re-reading it countless times. I inderstand it’s now on moratorium and that copies are only available via Ebay. Bob Thomas’ book was just awful. So one-sided and clearly meant for Enquiring minds (if you get my pun). Bud and Lou were far from perfect, but, c’mon, they certainly weren’t monsters. They were human. I remember writing Bud a fan letter back in ‘74 and sending him my week’s allowance money because my mom read he was in need of funds. He died just days after I had mailed it.

Thanks, Ron and I hope to get it back in print some day. It was FAR too much work to be unavailable!

Did you see Ron's Buck Privates book for Bear Manor? If not, check it out. He did a staggering amount of new research and found lots of great information.

The Thomas book and TV movie? Horrible, just horrible.

That was a very nice thing you did for Bud.
