I'm a new member with a puzzling projector problem. I would be grateful for any suggestions.
I've recently resurrected my old Bolex 18-5 8mm projector and replaced the three drive belts with new ones I ordered from Chambless Cine Equipment. It ran nicely for a few minutes then the motor stopped running and the bulb went out. No noises, funny smells or smoke. Nothing happens with any position of the main switch. But surprisingly, when I press the auto-thread lever, the motor does run and threads the film just as well as ever.
The bulb seems OK--at least I get continuity with an ohm meter. FYI, I think this is the older "spaceman bulb". It has a stubby dome on top and the socket is on the bottom.
Can anyone suggest a likely cause or the next steps to troubleshoot the problem? I'm reasonably handy with mechanical and electrical problems.
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.
