HI
I have inherited a boxes of super 8 films (about 40), what can i do with them? i live in chesterfield. I dont want to make lots money, I just dont want them to go to waste, maybe enough to get a bunch of flowers for the mother-in-law as these were her brothers.

i dont know if they have sound or if the colour has faded (sister inlaw took the projector to a car boot sale )

Thay all looked well looked after some are in the original boxes and some say sound-b/w some say sound-colour

some of the Titles are

Those daring young men in there jaunty jalopies
The rover expedition on the moon apollo 15
A W.C.Field comedy a laugh riot
Planet of the apes (black and white)
The wonderful world of swissair east malaysia/switzerland/(summer and winter)/spain
Close encounters of the thied kind
The french connection
The bridge on the river kwai

Any info would be nice! As i said i dont want to make lots of money, i just dont want them to go to waste.

Thank James

The films do have value, (at least some of them, most noticeably the sound films). Make sure of the color quality of the film. It's not hard to check, just look at the first few feet, the credits. If the films are faded to red, then they won't be worth as much, if anything.

If you'd like some info on what each one would be worth, ( as a general rule) your welcome to write me an e-mail, as, if you choose to sell them, you don't want to go up to high, but you also don't want to sell them for mere pennies.

But personally, I would hold onto them. In this world of quick and easy entertainment, having a representation of how things used to be in a simpler time is kind of fun!

Hi, James,

As Osi said just pull a few feet off the reels and hold up to a light. You will be able to tell right away if the over all color is red or if it is a rich spectrum of colors. Original boxes are a plus especially if they are in in very good condition(no tears or rubs). Also you might want ot measure the width of the boxes in inches.

It wouldn't take long to list the 40 titles here. Beside each title note the color grade(red, pink, excellent, b/w) along with the measurement of that box. If any are sound it will probably state "Super 8 sound" or "Sound" on the box.

Then a price could be suggested. [Smile]

You could probably come up with enough quid for flowers and dinner with a botle of the old bubbly. [Big Grin]

Hey Dan, do you realize that we BOTH managed to have a serious post or two.

A priest, a rabbi and a camel walk into a bar ...

Seriously though, Dan's right. make a complete list of the titles that you have, especially if your interested in selling them. For all everybody else knows, you might just have that one very rare title amongst your 40 films that nearly everybody has been looking for, and then, here come de bucks! Be sure to ask myself, Dan or any number of other people on ther forum.

Another option would be to check with the sellers in the UK, the best of these are listed at the very top of this section of the forum ...

But the best of these, from my own experience ...

Independent 8 (Barry Attwood's the best)
Derann Films (Gary is a great chap!)
Classic Home Cinema (Good Ole Phil!)
Perry's Films (Ian is a great one besides!)

Check with anyone of these fine fellows, and you'll be given a fair deal on your collection, if you wish to sell it altogether.

you may e-mail me with your list if you wish

toac at hotmail dot com (we have to disguise our e-mail addresses a little!)
