Hello folks ...

Since I just acquired an "Empire Strikes Back part 2" in LPP, (thanx Chris!), I'm now selling my Kodak SP print of this title
on ebay.

Please note: as stated in the ebay sale, the screenshots that I am using are not from the print we are selling, as my wife and I are terrible at making screenshots. She's never tried and my few attempts have been horrendous.

Therefore, I asked our own John if we could use his screenshots that he has placed up here on this forum for our auction. As our print is either dead on in color to the screenshots, or the slightest amount off.

By the way, while I will do a complete review comparing the different issues of this Empire Strikes Back digest in the neqar future, I find it interesting that, while the Kodak SP will eventually brown, the overall color quality is actually better than that found on the LPP copy. The LPP copy is very blue and unfortunately, has the residue of the blue screen process for space shots rather prominent. The same shots on the Kodak SP, while the slightest bit brown, have literally no "boxing" on the ships. That, and the earlier SP prints have less grain than the later LPP.

So, long lasting color with LPP, but more grain and bluish. It's kind of a trade off.

BY the way, the auction starts at 29.99, but that is a great price for a great color print.

Osi, it seems you have trouble in putting the link.

It is very easy. Below is step by step:

1. Open your ebay listing.

2. Place your cursor on the URL address

3. Do "CTRL A" i.e press CTRL (which is located under Caps lock) and hit letter "A" while you still pressing CTRL button.

4. Do "CRTL C" (to copy)

5. Go to 8mmforum where you are writing this posting

6. Place the cursor on the message box and do "CTRL V" (to paste)

Your link will be in the message box.

I will not put your auction link here until you really give up to do that. [Big Grin]

Cheers,

You're welcome Osi. I think this is an excellent deal.

Thanks for the link Chris. I'm actually rather sad that my wife listed it now. I've been comparing the scenes where Yoda teaches luke, and the facial tones are off (on the LPP print) and especially Yoda looks terribly blue (in the LPP) but the Kodak SP has very natural tones. If it wasn't for the slight browning, I would have kept this one.

It's just my thoery, but I think that the problem (especially in part 1) with the brownish blacks, is due to bad processing or original source material tha wasn't completely color corrected for release.

The original asteroid scene, (in part 1) in the original release, actually ha a slightly brwonish tint to the color. I noted this in both the first letterboxed laserdisc edition Empire as well as that wonderful deluxe CAV edition of the uncorrected trilogy, (well, actually, there was the upgrade of the soundtrack and the original film elements were cleaned of dirt and debris, but no color correction), that scene has brownish space.

Also, it should be remembered that the earliest prints of the "Empire" digests were taken from pre-release film material, as the German part 1 digest has "December 12th 1979", a good six months until the actual release, and no doubt color correction was done before it was officially released. This is also why the digests have a little bit of different dialogue or different "takes" of certain dialogue.

Good idea Winbert, but I'll have to wait until I'm at the library where I can do morew with the computer. I'm at home with an exceedingly slow internet connection.

One last note about the differences in the LPP and Kodak SP editions ... It's kind of ironic, but the 1982 LPP prints of these digests were, in a matter of speaking, doing the "Lucas color corrections" a good 13 oir 15 years before lucas did it!
