Hello folks,

I have a standard 8mm sound print of Chaplin's Modern Times that is unfortunately proving a bit of a headache to screen. Getting hold of a standard 8mm sound projector in working condition in Japan is proving to be difficult, you see. I've purchased two Eumigs so far but both have had problems rendering them a danger to the prints. I was therefore wondering if anyone has a super 8 print of the title?

I intend keeping the standard 8 prints as when I'm back in the US or UK getting a usable projector will be far easier and cheaper but as I'm going to be here a few more years yet I thought I'd ask so as to allow be to see it with what I own at the moment.

Thanks for any help you might have.

Peter

Hi Peter,

"Modern Times" has been Super 8 printed "around 95" by LGFC, ("Les Grands Films Classiques" in Paris).
So far I can remember the quality was excellent as they used pretty good negatives (Same thing for "the Kid", Dictator which they produced too with special agreement from Chaplin Family etc....)
It was printed in France , B/W on color film stock ......

Few items were sold, but sure there are somewere , here in france.....

LGFC is still alived, but Super 8 office is Off.

These prints were as expensive as a color print, equivalent duration.

Phil

Hi Phil,

Thank you for the background information. I wasn't aware of a print other than the Piccolo Films edition released in the 70s. I imagine the LGFC may be of a better quality then..

Cheers,

Peter
