If what you need is just a 600 foot autothread reel, you can still get Gepe reels brand new.
Especially when the reels are larger ones, the Gepes run truer than any other reel I've ever used and are free of stuff like molding lines and burrs. The bonus is they come in a nice storage case.
Gepe Reels
It really pays to have your take up reels be good ones. Every film you project winds up on them and then very quickly yanked off of them upon rewind, so the potential for spreading damage throughout your film collection is there. If the reel isn't true, you'll wind up hearing "EEEEEEK...... EEEEEEK......EEEEEEK" once a turn when the flanges scrape the sides of the film. Every time you use the projector if the takeup reel doesn't cooperate it's a hassle, so the potential for just deciding to pack it in and watch TV instead is there too!
