I am wanting another Super 8/Regular 8 projector (dual) and wondered what my choices are. It must be sound and it must be European 220V ... Any tips on what to look for?

I have an Eumig Mark-S 710D, but I don't trust it, as it's eaten one movie (it runs fine if I don't stop it mid film)

Thanks for any advice

I don't know really, but I'd stick with Bolex if they made a proper dual-gauge model [Smile]

It's better if you look for a standard8 only sound projector. They're quite rare, but they're worthwile.
Here some models:
Kodak sound8
Cirse sound 2 / Silma 240S (they're the same, but from different brand)
Silma Sonik

What are the price range on those? And where to find? Didn't see much Standard 8 with sound on eBay

Thanks for the suggestions ... They are all 220v?

Silma/Cirse are multivoltage, kodak was available also in 220.
They roughly vary from 50 to 100 euros and sometimes they come up on ebay (look on ebay Italy for the silma/cirse)

wow..never heard of a standard 8 elmo 180. Are you sure?
I used Eumig 810's and 824's for my standard 8 and have no trouble with them.

The Kühn company in Germany was able to convert a ST180 to regular 8. Not sure if the frame to soundhead difference was respected, though.
Vidar, like Fabrizio suggests, you'd better look at reg8 machines. That might feel strange to you, but I keep an Eumig 710 as my reg 8 sound machine. You just have to be extra careful with that longer lower loop that is created when projecting standard 8 films. The 810 is another option.

My 710 runs fine, when it's running normal speed. It's just that sometimes it doesn't and then chews film. I'd love to get one of those mentioned, but can't find them ... Silma 240S was the one with larger reel capacity 100W and the Sonik 8+ had 120m reels, but had 150W lamp ... I haven't gotten any large films, so I guess both are good choices. Now to find them :-)

Vidar, if this is a speed issue, ie your projector slows down and/or stops, it feels like the drive discs deserve a good inspection and cleaning...

Yes, I know ... It was my first projector (to speak of) and got help sanding the disc, so now it at least runs, but it's not to be trusted. The disc is still too slippery, but have no idea how to get it "re-rubbered" ... Easier changing belts than these contraptions :-)

The springs might need to be exercised. Sanding the discs is not the way to go.
