TROCADERO 400' BLACK & WHITE

This is a Barry Wiles release through Perry's Movies and runs a full 20 minutes, rather unusual for a four-hundred footer. It was released in feature form by Republic Pictures in 1944.

Whilst the print looks OK on the bench it was obviously taken from a rather worn print with heavy marking especially on the opening credits. There is also a slight hum on the sound.

This nostalgic old musical tells the story of Broadway's Trocadero night club and the people who helped make it famous.

Crammed into this excerpt are Bob Chester & his Orchestra, Gus Arnheim & his Orchestra, Eddie LeBarron & his Orchestra, Matty Malneck & his Orchestra. The trumpet playing of the one-armed Wingy Manone. The singing of The Radio Rogues and The Stardusters.

And if all the above isn't enough there's also Max Fleischer's brother Dave who sketches a little man on the tablecloth who comes to life, climbs a soda syphen and squirts the fellow diner.

Do you really need anything more in a 400' film?

In spite of the shortcomings mentioned this is presumably a rarity from a film I'd never seen on TV and had never heard of before.

I have over a thousand films in my collection (16mm & Super 8) and I do not keep details of where they all come from.

I would say the best place to start is to give Ian a call. [Smile]
