No its not a film on the history of film collecting, although it could be, [Wink]

Its the story of Scrat the squirrel, who one day was out doing what squirrel's usually do and thats collecting nuts to add to his already large collection in an old tree, his attempt to make one final acorn fit in causes all the nuts to collapse down and shoot out of the bottom of the tree, including Scrat who finds himself free-falling from the edge of the mountain to the ground, he takes advantage of this moment to start collecting his nuts to the music of, "I think" Sleeping Beauty Waltz {Tchaikovsky}, everything is going really well except one thing he has forgotten about up till now and thats the ground which is approaching fast, to late crunch, he finds himself stuck in the ice and while he is trying to free himself one final nut is coming at him at a red hot speed, to late "wham" ,poor Scrat he recovers only to find that the acorns impact is causing the ice to crack, things really begin to happen as we see the world from space and continent's begin to form this leaves Scrat on a very small island on his own, but no he has still has one nut but even this sadly turns to dust leavng only part of it which in turn he puts on his head as a sun hat. [Frown]

Well, there you have it if you ever wondered how the continents were formed it was down to "Scrat the squirrel".

A Derann 200ft release excellent print and stereo sound a must have film, great repeatability, very highly recomended.

I love this cartoon, it's one of the most often requested films in my collection. I feel a lot of empathy for Scrat [Roll Eyes]

What a great little film!

It always draws comment from people that I show it to because they never expect to see something so recent on Super-8. My nephew actually thought I transferred it off DVD using a Super-8 camera. (Considering the quality of the print, this is quite a compliment.)

It is also an excellent test for sound systems: the audio dynamic range is everything from almost complete silence to symphonic music to (literally) an earth shattering crash near the end.

It's 16:9 (masked top and bottom on the standard 4:3 frame). It very nicely fills my 16:9 screen corner to corner and looks fantastic up there.

I always remember the time the cat was wandering through during a screening and suddenly found herself confronted with the vision of a 3 foot tall squirrel with fangs in the same room. You've never seen a cat cover so much ground so quickly!

Thanks for your comments, just over a month ago I offered to do a mystery film evening as a staff social event for a bakery, they had never seen Super8 before and as part of the 8mm programme the first film on the reel was "Gone Nutty" during the end credits to my surprise everyone clapped thought it was great. The evening went very well indeed, and I do hope Derann continue to release future Pixar shorts the next one I hope, should be "Lifted" I better send Garry an e-mail on that one. [Smile]

PS another gem is "For The Birds" a great addition to any Super8 film show.

Well..I just now got hold of a print of Gone Nutty...and it's everything you guys said it was. Fine picture and sound quality..and an amusing subject. I'll be using it for a "movie under the stars" night I doing for my daughters day care center on July 8th...if I can ever figure out how to set up my Dalight Fast Fold screen.....page 3 of the instructions is missing...and I've never set it up before.

Since you mention the FastFold screen, I can possibly give you some pointers with that, as I have set up a lot of those when I was an A/V technician. Shoot me a mail at chavideo (at) hotmail (dot) (com) and tell me what size and such, and I'll see what I can do.

Great little review. Here I was griping about CGI in another post on "General Yak" and here I am praising this little film.

I have it on 35MM, but did anyone ever release the trailer for Ice Age, in which it's all just Scrat, trying to find a place to hide his acorn? The whole 2 and a half minute trailer is literally a whole self contained cartoon in itself, and while the other trailers for the film were okay, this one was the standout.
