Hi lads I too have a copy of the film "Blood on Satan's Claw"
(Satan's Skin)and my copy is still the same colour wise as when
I purchased it from Derann in '76 when first released I am intrigued as to why my print hasn't faded but others have and I
feel we must check into this problem as Ithink it goes beyond
film stock used.

Sounds like a very welcome "problem"! I think most Derann colour releases from that era were Eastman and so now look deadful, but I've found the occasional one on Fugi that - with luck - holds up much better, so perhaps that applies to your print.

Hi chaps I'm afraid It was a discussion that started out about
"Twins of Evil" but got sidetracked into print fade and Derann
prints.I just stated that my copy of the film still had very good
colour which could be climate (where I live tends to be cold and
damp in the extreme North West of Cumbria) It could be the
stuff we're putting on our prints to preserve them,or even the
very powerful light we're putting through the film gate which I feel must have an effect on the dyes in the emulsion.

Twins of Evil
Walton 200ft Colour Sound

Well, I got the 200ftr when it came out and it scared the life out of me particularly the scene at the end of the reel. The film of course stars Peter Cushing and was produced in 1971 set in the nineteenth century so plenty of costumes throughout to admire with the theme of stomping out those nasty Vampires. The edit is rather good although I am digging deep in the old memory cells here as I no longer have this colourful Walton film. Electrical and photo retailer Dixons had this on the shelf in the 70’s so I braved the scary box artwork and purchased it and the film inside did not disappoint. Print quality was good as was the sound and a film I used to regularly run to friends back then which proved popular. Peter Cushing is always a popular actor here who we lovingly remember for his gentle manner in real life and thankfully many of his films found way onto Super 8 and even Standard 8mm sound. Twins of Evil is regarded as one of the best latter Hammer Films so perhaps a good reel to look out for.
Print 10/10 (At least in the 70’s)
Sound 10/10

I agree Adrian, the print on this little reel is very good as is the
sound.I've still got my copy and it's companion"Castle of Death"
which was a 200' clip from "Vampire Circus" as you know. The
"Twins" more or less covers the end of the film and gave me good cause to purchase them when given the Walton feature treatment.Colour on these films is very good and it must be said that Walton Films did give very full spools.A great scene in "Twins of Evil" is the decapitation of one of the Collinson twins
which is particularly well done by Peter Cushing armed with a
bill hook.As I'm tapping away, I'm running"Blood on Satan's
Claw" which still has held it's colour, granted the interior scenes
are dark, but the exterior shots still have loads of green and
the night scenes are very good colour and is just the same as
when purchased, which brings me back to the question of
storage, film treatments and wattage of lamp.I've looked at the
film and the only markings I can see are "safety film".So over to you gentlemen.

Hugh - You are very lucky. The two prints I have had of Blood on Satan's Claw were totally red. At least I know that there are better prints out there... so I will keep on the lookout for one! But I have to say this is one of the worst editing jobs ever done by Derann. If you don't know the whole film (which had a few loose ends even uncut) you will have no idea what's going on. I wish Derann had put out a full length print in their later days...

Brian,I certainly agree with that, the key scene of the young bride
driven to madness in her attic room by the creature under the
floorboards and the total omission of Linda Hayden's seduction
of the clergyman totaly absent and they could have been included
as the running time is very stingey at about sixty minutes. The
plus side was the full opening and end credits,it does make a
nice double with "Witchfinder General".The only time I saw one
on a used list, the colour had gone to pink.Mine is not perfect as
the interior shots are dark and pinky, but the exteriors ok which
says It wasn't graded properly, if at all.As you're on the lookout
for this print I'll keep my eye open this side if one pops up I'll
let you know.
