Can't give you an answer to your exact question, but I give somethings I've picked up along the way.
Xenophot claim to be brighter I've read, +20%, but I do not know. Now the ELC, A1/259 is used in current applications eg. stage lighting etc. I've noted that they sell with different life values and sell cheaper with longer life. Can buy them at Disco equipment shops for a couple of pounds. I've read these are not made as dimentionaly acurate as those made years ago when made for projectors, which could lead to uneven light on your screen. Having said all this I can't tell the difference on the screen.

Interesting comment about the dimensional quality of the lamps.
I bought some A1/231s for my Eumig 802D a while back. They don't have the little locating lip that these lamps are supposed to have. When I hauled out the machine for this first time this season I had to use one of these lamps and I'll swear that it's nowhere near as bright as I remember it from last winter.
I've just located a source that appears to do them with the lip, so I'll buy a couple and report back on the difference; if any.

I have gone back to Osram brand after some terrible generic EFP lamps. Apparently these are used for lighting effects equipment where filament alignment is not critical, in Super 8 projection (and 16mm) the filament alignment with the reflector is critical.
After trying 3 generics, I went back to Osram and bright light. I have always previously used Sylvania and Osram and will stick to these brands for my 16mm and 8mm projectors.

We found a lighting shop in Bury (UK) that was selling the ELC lamps for £8.99. But last month I bought 6 for £30.00 in a clearout at another shop who had over ordered. My lucky day!

The lamp I ordered which looked like it had the location lip in it (at least the picture did) turned up today - sans lip.
