Hi I have junked a few vinegary prints and wondered if there was any danger from reusing the reels after washing them?

Officially, the jury's out. But, personally I can't see why there should be a problem.
VS originates within the print.

No problem with using the reels. The film compound is the problem, using reels be it plastic or metel does not harm the new film. I would proberly wash the reels to clean them in the usual washing up liquid just to revive them.

Thanks that was the answer I was hoping for. Having binned an otherwise mint IB Tech print of a classic movie because of vinegar syndrome it would have added insult to injury if I had to junk two sets of tuscan reels and cans.

Think twice about the cans, not from the vinegar but because they may be part of the problem. Film needs to breath, and cans can concentrate the beginnings of vs and speed its progression. Unless they're vented "archival" cans any dust they protect from is outweighed by the damage they can do.
