I am getting a Kodak 16mm projector and a couple of reels. If I want to put a leader on them, do I buy single or double perforated? What does it mean? Holes on both sides or what?

Yes, double perf is sprocket holes on both sides and it means the film is silent. Single perf is sprocket holes on one side and is sound. I have used single perf leader on silent films but sometimes I put the holes on the wrong side!

if the films are silent you would want the double sprocket film leader if its sound the single will work, if you use the silent leader on sound film it will work just turn down the volume down or it sounds like a machine gun going off.

If your new 16mm projector is sound you should get single perforated film leader.
If it is a silent projector a leader film with double perforations is needed.
This is mainly to see at a quick look whether your film is sound or silent.
For a sound film you can use either leader. (Note an earlier comment about using a double perf leader to keep the volume control down as it passes through the projector.) However, a single perforation leader will indicate that you are threading correctly (perforations towards you.)
If you have a silent projector, check the position of the claw, it may be towards you, or away from you. If the former, you can use single perf film, however, if it is away from you, use a double perforation film leader.
