Hi Everyone,
Has anyone have experience of a Viewlex 1600 16mm projector? Do they provide a good picture and sound? How well made are they? I believe they are similar to the late 1960s RCA 1600. Many thanks.

I have an RCA 1600 (without the auto-load attachment). The sound is very good, and it uses the 1000 watt lamps that the Bell & Howell 642-652 models use, i.e., the A1/207 or the smaller quartz A1/242.

It does use an unusual exciter lamp. the BTD (7 Volt, .15 Amp), these I had to buy from the US.

As you, say, I assume that the same model became the Viewlex.

They seem to be quite acceptably made, but nothing to shout about!

The RCA 1600 seems to have been surprisingly light at 30lb (13.5kg). The Viewlex had a low voltage lamp so I assume is slightly heavier

The RCA 1600 is a true single case projector with built-in speaker. Using a mains voltage lamp there's no large transformer, and as the amplifier is transistorised this, no doubt, keeps the weight down.
The 7 volt exciter lamp is probably due to the requirements of the transistorised amp.

According to the service manual on the ACOFS website the Viewlex uses a BAK 4V exciter lamp. Is this the G/29? Does your RCA have two or three claw teeth? Thanks.

The BAK is a G/47. 4 volts / 3 watts.
Regarding the claw, I'll get the projector out and come back later to report.
