Back in the late 70s or maybe the early 80s in school I remember seen an educational film in school about pollution. It focused on water pollution mostly from what I recall. There were a number of scenes of this guy in a canoe and the water would alternate from clean to polluted. Specifically one part when he dipped a cup in the water to take a drink and it turned into scumming water.

Today is your lucky Day! I know this obscure film very well!
I'm a big fan of the guy that made this movie (and a canoeist, too). Before I started collecting films on film again, "film collecting" was VHS and I have a copy of this one.
This is a Bill Mason film titled "Rise and Fall of the Great Lakes". It's a short educational comedy about the origins of the Great Lakes and how people are treating them in present times. It makes its point by portraying this poor canoeist being thrown back and forth through time and when he arrives in our days he gets a big cup 'o foam out of the lake and gags on it!
It was produced by the National Film Board of Canada, the canoeist was Blake James and let's hope that foam was just a great deal of whipped cream and chocolate syrup!

I saw an interview with Bill Mason about this film. He said "How many times are you going to get the chance to drop a canoe from a helicopter?"
There should be 16mm prints out there. At the time this was the National Film Board's most common distribution format.
