I was just looking in my Private mail box today and was really surprised at the number of people I have sent PM's to that have still not read them.

There's mails going right back to early September.

What's the point of using PM's if people don't ever check to see if they have any.

If you guys go to your profile you can check a box to get the system to notify you at the email address you used to register when a new message arrives. But you must still go back to your profile and read them so the person who sent the PM knows you have read it.

Also you can then remove anything you don't want to keep which frees up valuable server space.

Kev

Just a thought, but the email notification you get to tell you you've received a pm also contains the message, if you scroll down far enough you will see it. Consequently I and I'm sure others, often read the message in the email and save opening up and deleting the message on the forum until later.

However, doing that gives the impressiion that the message hasn't been read when in fact it has...

Yes I agree Mike. And that can also cause problems with people thinking their message has not been read if the recipient doesn't reply.

It may also result in the persons PM box getting full of messages which of course take up precious server space.

Maybe I will ask Brad if the notifications can have the message left off which will force people to go to the forum and manage their messages in their PM area.

That sounds like an excellent idea. [Smile]

Unfortunately Dan after discussions with brad we were unable to go down that route.

The only way was to disable the PM and leave the email facility live so that users can send an email direct to other members and then comunicate off the forum.

See the sticky at the top of this forum.

Lets see how it goes.
