Yes I know this is a strange one but bear with me please. I have an old home made camper van and the chap who did the doings etc inside used foam backed carpet type stuff in stead of the proper stuff with a clothy firm back.
Well I recently noticed a lot of bitty dust etc in the van and gettting more and its the back of the carpet , the foam has all decided its time to discintigrate and drop to bits, some is holding together more than other bits. The dust etc seems to be making its way through the carpet etc.!!!! a lot.
I`d like to pull it all off but glued and the whole caboodle is dusting to bits big time if you try with it etc, so getting it off now is going to be areally messy going on and big job to redo right now as well.
As just coming in to spring I don`t want to start all of that so wondered if a couple of quick coats of paint would hold it all in if you will for the next 8 months or so as just a few hours job, not a right old going on for now and get to grips with it properly next winter( hopefully if I`m lucky !!!!!! in more ways than one )
Anyway just wondered if anyone had painted carpet for any reason and weather emulsion or a gloss would be best or anything else anyone could suggest please.
Many Thanks Mark.
PS it does have a look of the proper lining stuff just got a crappy backing.

Hi Mark,i wouldn't put paint over the carpet as it would be a very messy affair and when it dries would be rough and crusty, and also would lead to more dust when the paint starts to peel. Not only that you would have to take into account the fumes especially using a solvent based product or similar.I would suggest going to a place like Carpetright and buying an offcut that they always have plenty of and costs very little and lay that over the top Mark.
