This Building was built as the New Victoria in 1936, Theatre/Cinema,, Ballroom and Resturaunt later when the Odeon cinemas closed it was converted into Bingo and 2 cinemas followed by a third cinema. I'm a supporter of BORG who are trying to save the building being knock down, the ultimate aim being to restore it back to the New Victoria. I have today been given the web address of 'photos of the present state of the inside, thought you might like to see.

You say this is an Odeon. Can you explain please?
My "Odeon Cinemas" book says that the New Victoria was built in 1930. The Odeon was built in 1938 and opened on 17 December of that year. It had 2713 seats. It closed 22 March 1969 and was sold to Bradford Corporation for redevelopment scheme and demolished for West Yorkshire Police building.
The Odeon name was passed to former Gaumont (which looks like the photos as one box has Kalees), the name then passing to a new multiplex.

Yes Maurice you are correct New Victoria was 1930, later to be a Gaumont, it had 3310 seats, then became Odeon Twins in 1969. These 2 cinemas side by side above a Bingo hall. Later Odeon 3 added in the Ballroom area. The Orginal Odeon you mention was in Manchester Road and was demolised and on its site are the Magistrates Courts and gardens. (The Police station was in Princes Way on the opposite side of this road is the New Victoria/Odeon we are talking about.) The Odeon name is now on a Multiplex on the Bradford/Leeds border. Incidently I'm told for a few months back in the early days it was the largest cinema untill a cinema I think Newcastle opened.
