Can any of you IT guys help me out with this.
My daughter brought her laptop back from Uni and for some reason it will not connect wirelessly with my internet service. It was fine before she left and my sons laptop connects without a problem.
If we connect the laptop directly to my PC then theres no problem.
Any thoughts??

Yes, check which channel the wireless connection in your daughter's laptop is set to. It has to match your Your Wireless router, and was probably changed at Uni to match the system there.

Hi Martin,
Thanks. When she drags herself from her bed I'll get her to take a look - though she reckons she never changed anything when she went to Uni.

Long shot but it could be a virus. If she frequents the usual sort of rubbish most youngsters do now (facebook etc.) then look in C:\Windows\System32 for a file called fio32.dll. If it's there then she won't get on the internet until it's killed. And you can't delete it without running the PC in safe mode.

I thought about a virus but, she had no problem accessing the internet in Nottingham and as I said if we directly connect her laptop to my PC then she can get on the internet - it's just that she cannot get access wirelessly.
The laptop is still under warranty but I figured it'll save me a trip to PC World if I can get some help from one of you good people.

Further advice from one who had this problem with the wife's laptop. You shouldn't need to "trip" anywhere; both PC World and your Broadband provider should provide Free of Charge telephone support for this problem. Connect the laptop by wire before contacting them; they should be able to take control of the computer remotely and diagnose the problem.
BT solved our problem very quickly this way.
