I watched the Jungle Book with two of my kids (4 and 6 years old) on TV today and was amazed to find out later that it was already released in 1942. The kids were quite taken by it and I was trying to figure out how some effects were done - well I might have some ideas but I'm not sure. And well, what a difference it is really: with nowaday's movies you just know that most is computer rendered and this does not amaze me at all; but the old trick box gives me something to think about that I'd like to figure out.
Wouldn't mind seeing this film projected one day but I guess chances are rather small.

Hi Alexander!
I have a super 8mm LPP print of the jungle book and its amazing to see it on big screen.Im a fan of all that movies that the korda brothers made i have almost all in my collection about korda and i can say that sometimes special effect in older days are better than today because was more realistic and artistic, yes cgi efects maybe are more easy to do but always looks unreal on film and all the people today have the easy choice to say "oh i know how they do it,it cgi".When i was a cinema student on university everybody was amazed with superman effects because looks natural on cine film not like today that we see the superman movie on dvd and the stupid technicians of today almost discover all the tricks because they dont know how to use the original negatives and dont do the etaloning for dvd in the correct way resulting a revealing of all screen mask etc something that on cinema never happen,i have a original release print of superman and i can confirm you that all effects look amazing and natural on the originals of 1978 and nobody can detect the effects or the use of the optical printer because the etaloning is so good that you dont notice any colour change on superman while flyng not like the all dvd versions that discovers all the optical printer work for bad etaloning and,its for that reason that i love film instead video or digital..because the magic of film covers all the tricks if you do a good job.i think today no much people knows how to telecine and treat the film for dvd edition and thats a pity..im restoring now the original negatives of "the man and the earth" for a special blue ray edition here in my country and i am constantly asking to all the telecine people involved on the project that NEVER TOUCH THE COLOUR CORRECTION or filtering the image because once you do that all the magic of film its lost and the 1970īs look is lost too so im restored the negative and take control of all the post production because i dont want the final result looks cold and "yesterday filmed" and try to capture the essence of the film on the blue ray edition,my boss says that is proud of me for my "pourist head" but..hey! is for that reason that i win my nickname at work..

Nothing beats old school projection. Digital is just an imitation.
