No, I'm not planning to switch - film is best! - but it would be nice to have a VP that included a DVD player (which I could take out when necessary) - but still with other inputs to play my LDs, CEDs, VHS stuff thru! Anyone of you clever guys know of anything like that - preferably running off UK voltage.
Cheers, David E
P.S I've lost the thing that tells me if you reply - so I'll keep popping back!

Hi David,

It is a nice idea but not economical to be applied. Projector needs high wattage lamp so it will create hot surrounding the DVD player. It will disturb the player. Not to mention the spill over of light from the projector bulb needs to be eliminated too.

While on the other hand a portable DVD player is now becoming cheaper and cheaper. You can have a DVD player for the size of almost a DVD case for only $70.

So your idea would not be applicable if needs a sophisticated design to eliminated light and hot which will make a combo price to become doubled or tripled between the same spec projector + a portable DVD player.

Why don't you just glue that portable DVD on the top of your projector [Wink] . It will cost' nothing except the duct tape... hehehehe [Big Grin]

cheers

My view is that any device that serves multiple separate purposes will likely do none of them very well....

BEWARE folks!!

quote:
FEATURES:

- ...
- Maximum Resolution: 320 x 240 dots
- .....
- Lumens: 200 Lumens Max

SPECS:

- ...
- Power: 65Watt

This is a very, very simple projector, so to eliminate hot and the light spill over, it uses small bulb. I believe it requires only 50 watt halogen domestic bulb that is why the total power of the machine is ONLY 65 watt.

You can see the impact of using a low wattage bulb is low resolution and low lumens (so we have to use it in a totally dark room)

This projector is similar to this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200431442463&ssPageName=ADME:B: SS:US:1123

And see what the seller says:

quote:
THE BULB NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. TYPE: MR16 12v 50w AVAILABLE AT MOST HARDWARE OR LIGHTING STORES**
So we can say that this kind of projector is a plastic toy, not the REAL projector we meant! [Wink]

cheers,

Ta! Graham - I'll give our revered Chairman a ringle. And also thanks to all the others who commented. I'd like it for in the cinema for 'quick' looks and possibly for racenights in small venues! Cheers, David E

200 lumens??? An ELC lamp puts out 650 lumens. 200 is a toy.
I wouldn't buy a video projector with less than 2000 lumens...

oh, and a 320x240 resolution is 1/4 the resoultion of an old-fashioned TV set (1/2 the width, and 1/2 the height)...

Junk.

Yes I think they are just a novelty type projector and not for the serious home cinema user, the idea is good though.
