My wife has finally convinced me that some stuff has to go and so: I have six very unusual lobby cards from Abel Gance's NAPOLEON that I would like to sell. (Five horizontal and one vertical.) According to Kevin Brownlow's book on NAPOLEON, they are from the 1927 Gaumont-Metro-Goldwyn release of the film.

They do not feature the kind of artwork usually found on lobby cards. Instead, each features a very high quality photograph from the film. Several sources who are knowledgeable on photography and printing have told me that they are tipped-in silver gelatin prints.

I should mention that none of the cards include the character of Napoleon. In this regard, I have never been much of a paper collector and what I don't know about the subject would fill many volumes. Nevertheless, I have never understood or agreed with the view that a lobby card or one-sheet is automatically less interesting or valuable because a central character does not appear on it. I just don't get it.

In any event, I am aware of another card from this set (also without the character of Napoleon) selling at auction within the last few years for $1,500.00. This is the ballpark that I would like to discuss.

At the moment I am going crazy trying to figure out how to post images of the cards. In the meantime, I will be happy to email images to anyone interested.

Thanks!

Fred,

Instructions for uploading images:

When you click on the "Post Reply" button, you're taken to the page where you type your reply in the message box. Underneath that box, on the left side is a link that reads "Click here to upload an image." If you click on that, you're taken to the Image Upload page. Scroll down and you'll see
a place to enter your user name and password. After doing that, click on the "Browse" button, which lets you choose the photo you want to upload.
Remember, the photo can't be any larger than 550 pixels wide and muss be less than 200K file size. After you've chosen the photo, click the "Submit" button. If everything works properly, you'll see the "Success! Your Photo has been uploaded!" page. Copy the link for your photo and paste it into your response.
The photo should show up in your post!

If you're still having difficulty uploading photos you can always email them to me and I'll take care of it.

Doug
