We have been working through the recently released DVD's of the British TV series Danger Man (A.K.A as Secret Agent in the USA), and it has given both of us a renewed appreciation of British actor Patrick McGoohan. This is a really great series, and McGoohan is the ultimate ultra-cool secret agent who uses his wits rather than firepower to neutralize his enemies. After watching several of these you realise what a superb actor McGoohan was as agent John Drake, and you also wonder how much better he would have been than Sean Connery or any of the others in the James Bond films. In fact in just about all respects I find McGoohan as John Drake much more admirable than Sean Connery as Bond.
Anyway, it's a terrific series, with great nostalgia for 1960's Britain. Highly recommended, particularly to US forum members, who may have never seen it.

HI Paul

And it was also Patrick McGohan's first TV series role. I have a few of the episodes. Great TV from a great era.

Patrick McGoohan was great as John Drake and he was offered the role of Bond at one point but turned it down. My guess given his career trajectory following the Danger Man and Prisoner series is that was a poor decision, in financial terms anyway.
I'd like to have seen more of him , even as a Bond villain perhaps a la Robert Shaw in "From Russia With Love". `his many appearances on Colombo give a clue to how well he could have handled that.
Never gave less than a memorable performance.

My brothers and I never missed an episode when it ran on TV here in the 60's. Not only a great series, one of the best theme songs of all time by Johnny Rivers. When "The Prisoner" came out later I think Patrick McGoohan became my vote for best leading actor on TV for the decade. I think he was under-used in films.
