Well folks after a period of quietness we got 4 big ones today just like June they were in the 5+ range one being a 6:0 That one was real nasty impossible to stand up, get on the ground was the only option. Power came back on tonight and the water is going the new main pipes worked well and did not break.
Tomorrow its clean up, for a lot of people in this city its time to call it quits. It will be impossible to get insurance after today and our wee house is still down in the front even more than before. Tonight I am having a glass of the good stuff as we are tired out, mentally this has been a huge blow to folk in this city and with christmas shopping in full swing many of the malls, as with so much else are now closed. We are still getting smaller shakes but just put up with it. The civil defence called in checking everyone was ok and telling us where to go if needed. Tonight as its getting dark we hope for a quiet night, however we are a bit stressed. I think that this time the insurance will give up the idea of fixing this house and pay us out, today really was the last straw.
our street today...it was looking good after the repairs from the last one.
our house...the land has had it.
the back of our place...the liqifaction level dropping off.
With kids of school as its summer out here I am sure many families will be going elsewhere for the holidays not hanging round this place, its been an a terrible year.

HI Graham
I am so sorry to hear the bad news. I hope everyone is OK. What a spot to be in. It looks like you had a very nice house at one time. All I can say is I wish you luck finding a new home. I will pray for you all at mass this Sunday.
God Bless
Pat DAlessio
PS On a lighter note...is the big projecter in the garage OK?

Thanks Pat and Bryan.
Its morning and what a night, it reminded me of Lucille Ball making a salad in a moving caravan from the movie "Long Long Trailer" only difference its the land doing the bouncing. I lost count last night as they were constant, not big but strong enough to make things rattle and swing "15" I have been told from 4 to 4:6, the worst part is the noise of them coming you dont no till they arrive here how strong its going to be. I heard on the news this morning that the malls are going to open with the biggest trading day before Christmas the council say they cant afford to close them.
Well there has been two more since typing this so expect the day to continue like this. I really dont feel like cleaning up that liqufaction today although I better make a start. anyway wishing everyone for tomorrow a happy Christmas day.
Regards Graham.
PS. Pat the "Bauer" is still standing upright but has moved 6 inches across the floor and thats one heavy machine.
My sincere best wishes to you Graham (and all others over there). Yeah, with this much "risk", insurance companies will either call it quits on insuring you, or they'll have the rates so damned high there is no way you can afford them.
Hey! Move to Mtn. Home Idaho! No earthquakes here, houses are very cheap and we could have a jolly good time screening films!

Graham, I read about the new Christchurch quakes in this morning's Orlando Sentinel and you and your family were the first thing I thought about. This must have been an awful year for all of you, and I hope and pray that your situation will be much improved next year.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts its much appreciated just finished the clean up and once again people you never met before offer help in cleaning up the mess "just brilliant"
This time water and power is all running fine we will start looking at where else we can live and how much. House and land prices in areas not effected have gone up a lot and can see that being be a problem. Never mind, will take each day as it comes and see what the insurance people do next year. I have told my wife small house "big garage" I will need it.
Alex, not even earthquakes would get me interested in returning to "Dunoon" this country has been great so will stick with it The Dunoon paper "The Observer" known locally as "The Two Minute Silence" did a thing on line about a big drama of a hole in the road they had, and what to do about it, so I contacted them they got back and wanted to know a bit about yours truly, when I went to school etc. They were interested in doing an article about our holes out here......so they did. .
