Hey All,

Brand new to this forum and couldn't find a introductions thread, so thought I'd say hello and write a quick introduction here! My name is Phil and I'm from Preston UK.

I grew up in Derby during the 70's in a house opposite a local cinema which showed movies for 30p on Saturday mornings. The cinema got busted during the 80's for showing XXX and having live strippers and it got closed down. It became derelict with all the equipment still inside and I used to go and play with the projectors. So my first introduction to film was as a 15 year old boy, trying to manually thread a 35mm projector with scraps of movies, not the XXX ones, they had all been confiscated [Big Grin]

As a teenager I joined a film club at the local community arts centre and became involved in Super8 film making, I bought a projector, camera and several old (60's) movies. These items resurfaced at the weekend when visiting my mum's house so I'm just getting back into this.

I've got an old 60's "Bell & Howel 256ex", a "Hanimex SR6800", and about 20 films, mostly short 200-400' reels of cartoons, chaplin, etc. The kids love it! [Big Grin] so I'm going to expand my collection a little.

This seems like a great forum, so I'm very glad to be here!

Phil

Welcome to the Forum! You're in an ideal location as Lancashire is unique in terms of having 3 notable film collecting events each year, so I hope you can come along and meet fellow collectors in Blackpool, etc.

Yeah that sounds like something I'd do, is the blackpool one the "Northern Film Collectors Convention"?

Where would I find details of the others?

Welcome to the forum Phil, there is much to enjoy.Regarding the
old cinema opposite your home, reminds me of some of my own
shows in the past, except for the raids.

Phil - Blackpool, when organised by Derann, used to be called the Northern Film Collectors' Covention, but it's now organised by David Guest and called the North West Film Fair. Details of this and other conventions generally appear in threads on the 8mm Forum board. If you're free on Saturday (23rd February), note the details of an annual event near Bolton!
