British members here might be interested in the BFIs plans for the next 5 years and the associated consultation: http://www.bfi.org.uk/future Anyone interested in responding should note that the deadline is midnight on Sunday. There's a lot of emphasis on giving people additional film viewing opportunities as a result of "The digital revolution" so I intend to say that they should also consider the likely loss of opportunities that some will suffer if their local cinema closes, because they cannot afford to convert to digital and can no longer obtain 35mm prints. This subject seems to have been overlooked in the BFI's document. If anyone is aware of evidence that enables them to make an educated guess regarding the number or proportion of UK cinemas that seem likely to close when 35mm distribution ends, I'd appreciate the information.
