Has anybody ever tried to transfer the sound track from a projector to another I have a Laurel and hardy print that has a sound track but no sound I thought I could use one of my other l&H sound tracks from the scored title to transfer it?
And 2 elmos any thoughts?

Hey Jim-

I tried it once with two Sankyo's. When I played it back, the sound was not that great. Then, I tried it by recording the good sound track onto a good quality tape cassette (internal recording through amp). Then, I just recorded the sound from the cassette to the projector, and it was totally perfect.

It can be done Jim,but you would need some sort of linkage
between the machines.I seem to remember someone doing an
article in "Movie Mker" with two st1200s linked by the inching
knobs which ensured that they kept sync.If I remember they
removed the plastic knobs and had pulleys on which were
fitted with a belt between them.Derek Simmonds said that the
same principle was used by him when he first started up,but
he used Eumigs before he got his Levers-Rich sound transfer
machine.The bottom line is it can be done.What James says is
also true,I myself have done soundtracks without a synchroniser
by recording until there is a lapse in sync,then going to the last point of sync,rerecord by just letting the machine run and then ease in the record button which gave me "seemless" joins on the soundtrack with no clicks etc.Hope this helps.

Jim, how can you be sure that the speed of your both projector is EXACTLY the same. One second it drift, the two sound will not syncs for the whole reel.

The best option is to copy the sound to tape/CD/MP3 and put it back to the film you are going to dub at the SAME projector.

There is a chance that the sound will also drift a bit because we cannot control the speed of the tape recorder (except you copy to CD which obviously has constant speed).

There is another way using today's software which I am going to write on the other thread after I finish with my experiment.
