Further to the stuff on Ricky's thread, and in order not to perpetuate the offence, I thought it best to move the whole thing to a new thread.
It seems to me there's a difference between "commenting upon" and "hijacking" a sales thread.

I personally can see no harm in discussion of the sale itself.

However, with this particular thread, another member immediately jumped in with a reference to his own sale, and how much better a deal it was. Then the topic moved on to discussion of a totally different film, and finally even after the whole issue was highlighted, there was a totally unrelated interjection about Winbert's nationality. That, in my opinion, is hijacking.

ps: having typed and posted this, I just noticed that Doug has locked the thread in question.

this is not an attempt to circumvent your closing of the topic. I was posting this concurrently with you locking Ricky's thread.

I actually had unlocked the thread and re-wrote my reply while you were posting this. Coincidentally, I mentioned a couple of items that you reference here. I said it there, so I won't repeat myself.

Threads are like conversations...they can wander. We are all guilty of that. Members can always post and say..."Hey, let's get back to the topic".

Yes threads can wander, Doug. No doubt about that, and indeed not much can be done about it.
However, this particular thread was hijacked from the start and in a very obvious way. It's not just me who noticed.

Anyhow, I see you've addressed this in the other thread.

The thing with people putting stuff for sale on the Forum,and
we have all seen it,is if there is no input or interest shown then
eventually the advert sinks into oblivion and people scanning
just the recent posts will miss it entirely.I wish Richard every
success selling his film,and I've no doubt he will,but conversely
folks passing comment etc also keeps your ad in the public eye.
As Jack Beauregard said in "My Name Is Nobody"...."People that
throw dirt on you don't mean you any harm" and the great
Betty Davis "There's no such thing as bad publicity".So comments good or bad in an ad keeps it a talking point and it
certainly would not deter me from buying something I want.

Hugh, you really nail on to the point.

This is what I was always trying to enlighten people who do not want those "rubbish" comments in his sales thread apart from an interest to buy.

I really hate when entering a pawn shop or flea market then the shop owner's eyes are starring at me and following to where I walk. Each time I ask something, the only answer that I can feel is "yes... And do you want to buy it or not".

If I say "no thanks", he will grumble something and continue to do his works. Another time I ask for another item he will reply "that is not for sale" or "that is expensive" or the most sarcasm answer "will answer if you will buy"

So not even a single time to have a chat " wooow this is very rare item, i show it at TV last time" or even more a friendly chit-chat "are you also collecting this?"

I guess we are not in a flea market nor a pawn shop, we are a community sharing the same hobby. So we are talking about this hobby no matter in 8mmforum or Wanted/Sales list.

ps: I now never buy from pawn shop because that attitude and they are way too expensive. Ebay is the best and garage sale/car boot sales are even more! [Big Grin]

As always Winbert you prove to be very astute and on the ball.Whatever goes on sale is always going to be commented
on,but good or bad it's better than indifference.

As stated on the Ricky's post (and I'm restating here), I had written him an apology days ago in his PM section about it, as, though I really didn't mean to hijack his post, I kind of did, though a number of us kind of jumped on the bad wagon as well.

Osi it's a forum.and as Winbert and some other members have
already stated,it is a community that we have here.Remember
some weeks ago,when we were concerned for one of our members
with YouTube, opinions were expressed,some forceful,but all
heartfelt for the predicament of one of our own.Likewise with
Richards thread,he had already advertised his film,he had laid
out his request,so anything that followed really didn't matter.
As Winbert and myself have already stated,that thread had never been off the Forum display, and that has got to be good
for Richards film,because anybody logging on immediately
see's that ad for "Empire Strikes Back"that would normally
have dropped off the radar,so really all this fuss, over not very
much, has done Richard the best advertising he could hope for.

Joe, as in many forums there is usually a rule about bumping your own thread. Normally goes by number of bumps a day.

Deleting a thread cannot be done by members, moderator only.

Re-post a new thread for the same topic is not allowed.

So appreciating the other member's comment is greatly appreciated.
