Does anybody know if it's possible to download you tube videos onto disc which will play in a standard DVD player?

On Mozilla firefox browser there is a button to download any online video. When you click that button it will be saved on a folder.

You can play straight away from your computer or burn to a disc. But that can only playable on a computer with certain software installed not a domestic DVD player.

To make the files are playable on standard DVD player, you must convert the files to VOB files and create structures for DVD. This can be done if you have Nero burn software or sort of.

Hi Mike,

Sorry Winbert you are wrong on a few points here.

You will need to download the software to add the downloader to your Firefox browser just google "Firefox Youtube Downloader" it only takes a few seconds and will add a downloader button to you You Tube viewer at the bottom it works a treat.

If you save the files as MP4 you should be able to burn them to a disc and then play them on most standalone blu ray players without a problem so files are even availiable in HD 720P.

(I wrote this just as Mark was writing his)

I think using firefox you can save it as a mp4 file which Nero will take and convert to make a standard dvd. Im sure also that Nero will also take many other file formats and allow you to make a standard dvd, but flash files (.flv) is not one of them.

In Nero select the 'Make your own dvd video' button and Nero will take the clip frame by frame and convert it to the dvd format it uses and you can easily add a menu and customise it at the same time then Nero does all this and finally burns it to disc.

Mark, you are probably right. My computer has already that button perhaps someone has installed that software before me.

As for Bluray vs DVD, because Mike is asking for DVD so my reply is for DVD and standard DVD player cannot play MP4 with the exception those cheap machines from China which can even play USB right on the player.

Mike, if you are using Chrome at the moment, then download "Youtube downloader" from http://download.cnet.com/YTD-Video-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10647340.html.

This is a free software where you can paste the link of the particular youtube video and the software will download the file and store it in a computer folder.

Later you can save and use Nero to burn on a disc for a standard DVD player.

You will need to buy the Nero software Mike or use some freeware to convert the files if so required, again just google it to find the freeware.

If you have Windows 7 making a DVD from mp4 video files downloaded with the Firefox extension is as easy as pie.

Open Windows Movie Maker (comes with Windows) click "add videos"

Once all your videos are imported click "save as" - "Burn DVD"
You will then have the option to make a menu and Burn a DVD player compliant DVD.

No need to buy anything!

Cheers

Terry,

I was actually thinking along those lines. I already use Windows DVD maker for other files. I'll give that a try.
